The award-winning Braemar Dominator provides a smarter pathway from ducted gas heating to efficient electric heating and refrigerated cooling.
Unlike a conventional ducted reverse-cycle system, the Dominator has been purpose-engineered by Seeley International to replace an existing ducted gas heater while retaining as much of your home’s existing heating infrastructure as possible—including suitable ductwork and outlets.
This can significantly reduce installation time, disruption and waste while avoiding the need to remove the entire duct system and start again. Depending on the home, installation may be completed in as little as one day.
During your in-home assessment, we inspect the existing ductwork, return air, electrical supply and available equipment locations. Any required upgrades are clearly included in your quotation, and the completed system is professionally commissioned to suit the airflow and static-pressure requirements of your home.
The Dominator offers flexible internal, underfloor and external installation options, smart Wi-Fi control, optional zoning for up to eight areas and a five-year comprehensive manufacturer’s warranty. Existing evaporative cooling may also be retained, allowing you to choose between evaporative and refrigerated cooling.

What is the Braemar Dominator?
The Braemar Dominator is an award winning, all electric system purpose built to replace an existing ducted gas heater.
It provides efficient electric heating during winter and refrigerated cooling during summer. Refrigerated cooling means the same cool, temperature controlled air produced by a conventional air conditioner.
This innovative technology is the only system of its kind in Australia specifically engineered to reuse suitable gas heating ductwork for both heating and refrigerated cooling.
Does my existing gas heater need to be a Braemar?
No. The Dominator can replace most major brands of ducted gas heater, including many Braemar, Brivis, Bonaire, Rinnai, Lennox and Celair systems.
The brand, model, location and condition of the existing installation will be checked during the site inspection.
How does the Dominator work?
Your existing gas heater is removed or permanently decommissioned and replaced by a specially designed Dominator indoor unit. This is connected to a new Braemar reverse cycle outdoor unit.
The system uses electricity to heat and cool your home, distributing the conditioned air through suitable existing ductwork and outlets.
During commissioning, the airflow and static pressure are adjusted to suit the individual home and duct system.
Can my old heating ducts really be used?
In many homes, yes. That is exactly what the Dominator has been designed to do.
Heating ductwork is not normally suitable for a conventional ducted reverse cycle system. The Dominator is different because it has been purpose built to operate through suitable gas heating ducts.
The ductwork must still pass an inspection. We may need to upgrade the return air, insulate outlet fittings or repair damaged sections before they can be reused.
Does it really provide heating and cooling through my existing vents?
Yes. Both the electric heating and refrigerated cooling are delivered through your existing gas heating outlets, provided they are suitable for reuse.
Your existing vents can remain in place.
Will I save money by not replacing all my ductwork?
Yes. This is one of the greatest advantages of the Dominator.
A conventional ducted reverse cycle installation can require completely new ductwork, new outlets, ceiling repairs, painting and several different trades.
Retaining suitable ductwork and vents can significantly reduce the installation cost, mess and disruption involved in replacing ducted gas heating.
Will it be powerful enough to heat and cool my whole home?
The Dominator is designed as a whole home heating and cooling system.
Every home must still be assessed to confirm the required capacity, available airflow and suitability of the existing ducts. Correct system selection and commissioning ensure dependable comfort throughout the home.
What will it look like inside my home?
In most cases, very little will appear to change.
Your existing outlets can generally remain, and the main indoor unit will be installed out of sight in the ceiling, beneath the floor or in a suitable external position.
The return air grille may need to be enlarged or upgraded. You will also receive a new wall controller for operating the heating and refrigerated cooling.
What will it look like outside my home?
A Braemar reverse cycle outdoor unit will be installed outside. It looks similar to the outdoor component of a conventional air conditioning system.
Its position will be selected with consideration given to access, airflow, drainage, noise and the appearance of your home. It may be installed on mounting feet or a wall bracket.
If your existing gas heater is externally mounted, an external Dominator configuration may also be available.
I already have an evaporative cooler. Do I need to replace it?
No. A suitable existing evaporative cooler can remain in place and continue operating independently.
The Dominator does not rely on an evaporative cooler because it provides electric heating and refrigerated cooling on its own. Keeping your evaporative cooler simply gives you the option to continue using it whenever you choose.
Do I receive a government rebate?
Eligible installations can receive an upfront discount through the Victorian Energy Upgrades program when a qualifying ducted gas heater is replaced with an approved high efficiency reverse cycle system.
Specialized Heating & Cooling manages the rebate process through our rebate partner. The confirmed rebate is deducted from your quotation upfront, so you do not need to pay the full amount and claim it back later.
The final rebate amount will be confirmed within your quotation.
Will the running costs be lower than gas heating?
Yes. The Dominator uses highly efficient heat pump technology, allowing it to deliver significantly more heating energy than the electricity it consumes.
This makes it considerably more efficient and less expensive to operate than traditional ducted gas heating. Savings can be even greater when combined with effective zoning and rooftop solar.
Does installing a Dominator mean my home will no longer have gas?
It removes gas from your home heating, but it does not automatically disconnect the entire property from the gas network.
If you still use gas for hot water, cooking or another appliance, the gas connection will remain active.
If heating is your final gas appliance, you may choose to arrange removal of the gas meter and eliminate the ongoing gas supply charge.
Is the Braemar Dominator suitable for every home?
Every home must be assessed before the Dominator can be recommended.
We will inspect the ductwork, outlets, return air, electrical supply and proposed equipment locations. We will then explain what can be retained, what must be modified and whether the Dominator is the right solution for your home.
